In the symphony of well-being, let our collective heartbeat resonate: It's National Public Health Week!
One thing about CHW Liberation Consulting we are not new to public health, but we are here because we care about public health! National Public Health Week (April 1-7), let's come together to protect, connect, and thrive. We are all part of the solution and help those who are part of the problem.
Our wonderful state of Virginia has been actively promoting health and well-being this week. Let's raise awareness of what they have done to make Virginia the healthiest state in the nation.
In 1610 three years after the founding of Jamestown, the first sanitation law was passed, since then the state continuously evolved its public health.
Virginia Department of Health and their employees across 35 health districts and 119 local health departments continue to promote healthy lifestyles, where the public health workers educate the public on health choices and preparedness for emergencies.
VDH also track disease outbreaks using data driven approaches keeping us all informed.
VDH also address factors like SDOH (Social Determinants of Health) poverty that impact well-being. You can learn more by going to the Virginia Department of Health website for data dashboards you can learn all about disease prevalence and other health matters.
As Certified Community Health Workers we can contribute to public health and supporting our underserved communities which is crucial.
Here are ways that we can make an impact:
Promote Awareness and Advocacy: Use social media platforms to raise awareness about public health issues. Share blogs like this, messages, facts and resources as we do on this site. Stay engaged using the hashtag #NPHW.
Advocate for Equitable access to healthcare, clean environments and social support systems. Encourage out communities to take action.
Local Events and Education: Next year we at CHW Liberation Consulting are planning to take part in planning a local event in our community to focus on health education, prevention and community well-being. WE plan to present facts on many health topics. WE also plan to collaborate with local organizations to provide a health education session for our underserved populations.
Support Vulnerable Individuals: It is so important for us to volunteer our time and skills. Offer assistance to those who may need help accessing healthcare services, transportation, or registering for appointments. In addition to address social isolation by connecting with isolated individuals as well. A simple phone call or visit call can make a significant impact.
Advocate for Equitable Resources: Be a voice for people living in substandard conditions or congregate settings. Advocate for better living conditions, access to nutritious food and safe housing. Lastly but not least, encourage local leaders to allocate resources to support underserved communities.
Small actions can create meaningful change. Let's work together to create a safe, interconnected and health communities for everyone during NPHW!
